Phil,
Is the tag at the rear of the transmission, attached so it is parallel to the crossmember? I looked at a distance and it's greased over. This ones an Aerostar Sport and I can't get my fat body under the running board... Will jack it up and look where you say.
I read that one of the reasons for going to 4R44E and 5R55E was to get "similarity" (or some such term)with other Ford auto transmissions, which I guess were moving to or already were electronically controlled.
