1970 Kayot Forester VIN Dave Jendro 8-12-16
Can anyone tell me where the VIN is on a 1972 Forester? Also, how many digits does the VIN have. I found a 6-digit number on the tongue frame but I don't think that's the VIN.

Hi Dave, I'd bet it's a pretty good chance the number you found is the serial #. Have you looked on the back of cabinet, fuse, circuit breaker panel doors or cabinet walls for a data sheet? Is there a title with the VIN? Just some ideas, can't pinpoint you to a VIN but where you found the numbers is a common place for them. Good luck

Further background:gkqj2 there was no set standard for a vin until 1981 so the manufacturers used whatever they wanted

So it is likely you found the valid serial number.
