We have had the same problems with our 85 Midas with a 454. The Heave Duty Boots (orange not black) will help, I also use an insulation sock (available at local auto parts house, used on race cars), I have added a thick layer of insulation putty used on wood stoves (good to 9000 degrees), under the heat sock. The putty is very brittle, but so far has worked. We have had success for about 300 summer heat miles. Next I will add a duct from behind the front wheels to bring in cool fresh air. Be sure that there is nothing blocking air flow to your radiator (including a home made bug screen with small holes). Good luck to all of us! Oh by the way, you can get ceramic plug wires for about $100, I haven't tried them as yet. Pete
I don't know much about motorhomes. I just bought a 1978 gmc midas, What is the second battery under the hood for? What does it operate. Thanks for any info
I recently purchased my very first RV--it's a 1976 GMC Midas Mini 17' with 59,000 miles on it. I am worried that because this engine does not have that much mileage on it, it will have more problems involved with it. First off the air conditioning in the engine does not operate, but the seller told me it just needs to get recharged--finding a place to do that is a hassle. And I just found out that not just anyplace will work on it. Someone please email me with any and all information you may have regarding this kind of RV--any kind of feedback would be great, I really appreciate it! I am very anxious to get on the open road and would love some advice!!
We have recently bought a 1976 Vandura Midas GMC RV. Model #TG31603, VIN TGU3364519460. We need the housing of the starter ignition and the cylinder ignition key. Can you provide us with the names of the parts dealers to contact.
Im looking to restore my mini 190 on a gmc chassis can anyone tell me where i can find body parts ie: doors and floors and parts for camper interior any help would be appreciated thanks
If a GMC Midas Motorhome has not been used or run for several years, what kind of lubricant should you put into the cylinders before you try to restart the engine?
Well first of all I would like to know where can I purchase a manual(both engine and interior workings) for my midas mini 190,1976, GMC Motorhome? Second, since we have owned it it never gave us any starting problems. Fired right up and purred like a kitten. Then all of a sudden it won't start, smells like it is being flooded and when it finally does start it only runs a few seconds and is very rough? Any suggestions out there in RV land?
Does anyone know what size tires and rims came stock on the 1976 GMC Midas. We just recently got one and it needs tires and rims but what they had on it was way too big and rubs on the fenders they are 16 1/2". Please feel free to give any opinion that you are either using or know what size they right need? Thanks again
I know this is a judgment call, but I have the opportunity to purchase a 1976 GMC Midas Mini 190 that has been kept in fair shape. The cab a/c nor the roof a/c work, 1 minor leak in the roof, generator does not work, rear brakes locked up and tires are dry rotted. Is this RV worth 1300.00?
I very recently became the proud owner of an extremely well kept '76 Midas Mini 190-2. It is a Dodge 360 w/ 13,440 miles on it which has been stored inside for all but the last 24 months. The engine doesn't even suffer from the usual "waking up blues" or sticky valves.
What are it's pitfalls and what advise can you give me. This is my first real RV. I have a '78 Dodge 360 Trans Van that I intend to sell. It just didn't suit the bill for me.
Interested in others who own a 1976 Midas Mini. We had it 4 yrs ago and passed it to a family member. They did not use it and now it has sat for most of the 4 years. What engine problems have others had for the GMC 400 engine?
I just bought a 78 Midas as well, Cush. My "mother's" day present, LOL! Mine isn't in too bad shape except for the ceiling where someone put some icky stuff on the ceiling. Apparently leaked at one time. Supposedly doesn't leak now. Got two different kinds of upholstery going on but hopefully I can change that!
