Kv 2500 lp spec-b generator hard to start by Greg
Post New Message Sorry for the novel but I’m a little desperate since I only have this week to figure out what could be wrong with my generator before going up hunting next week. Plus the camper is already up in the hills so I can’t work on it until I go back up on Friday.

I took my trailer up in the hills and set it up for elk season next week, when I found I was having a hard time starting the generator. It’s an older kv2500 spec-B. I do not know all the history with the generator. I bought it used 3yrs ago. The guy I bought it from did not use it much but I’m not sure about before that.

It always ran great until this year when I added a remote starter switch(I’ve tried it with the remote harness disconnected). The starter stopped working and it was so close to hunting season that I just replaced the starter and solenoid to be safe. After reinstalling the generator I couldn’t get it to start. It turned over great but seemed like it was starving for gas and when I did get it started it was struggling then it would die. I wiggled the governor and all the sudden it started right up and ran like a champ so I thought it was fixed. I stopped and started it several times with the remote starter and it ran great, until I got it up in the hills.

The first night it wouldn’t start so I wiggled the governor and it started and I ran it for about an hour and then shut it off with the remote start. The next morning I tried to start it and it might fire once and then nothing even messing with the governor did anything. I had left the gas on to it all night which I had never done before so I thought it was just iced up. It had been upper 20’s all night so I let it get warmer before trying to start it but it still wouldn’t start. That’s when I found something strange. If I turned it over and it fired as it was still turning I pushed the starter again and it would start and run great. I stopped it then repeated this process several times and it would always start. As it got warmer in the afternoon it would start without having to push the starter twice.

It seems like there is something wrong with whatever controls the flow of gas. I do not know much about lp engines so any suggestions would be appreciated. I’m afraid something is starting to fail and that it will completely go out during my week in the hills. If I can figure out what the most likely cause is, then I will try and buy the part and take it with me just in case.

Thanks

Greg
