I posted over on the conversion site and then I found one....
I'm looking at a old Western Flyer coach that was converted in the 70's and has sat since the mid 90s. The 471 started right up in the first couple of revolutions near freezing, clutch was good, air came right up and the brakes worked.
I'm just wondering what else I should be checking out before I take the plunge....I'm very mechanically inclined but I've never tackled air brakes or anything this big, for on road stuff anyway.
Anyone have any idea what brand/model equipment is on this vintage of coach....brake system, mainly.
Are front end parts from this era still available? easy to find?

It should have a complete safety check including a wheel bearing inspection on the front axle. The parts are basicly available but its come to a match it up at the counter situation. I recomend a qualified tech for this. As it is a basic bearing repack the tech only needs to crawl around underneath and do a visual check for weather checked air lines and all the other problem areas. And I recomend you take an air brake course if you haven't already. I can't rember what maxi pots came on these, and most were retrofit with maxis anyway. I would drain the fuel tank, just in case, change the fuel filters, again just in case. And finally I love these old beasts, you need to love them to make this worth while
