I had same problem with my 98 ford ranger. I found web site that had pictures - don't remember web site. The motor and blend housing is located behind glove box. I removed the glove box and the motor sits on top of the ductwork housing. I pulled the motor and noted that when selecting hot or cold the D-shaped motor shaft would turn. Using a mirror, I looked into the cavity the motor stem sticks into and part of the internal D-shape plastic was broken away. Ford Rangers are notorius for breaking so I was told. It was either replace entire set up for over $200 or fix it. If yours is stuck in hot position, with motor removed, set blend control to hot so motor stem is set to that position. I then removed the motor housing and I drilled a very tiny hole through the motor stem and inserted a thin paper clip wire into the drilled hole so that it barely stuck out on each side. You will have to know where to place it by looking into the cavitiy the motor shaft sticks into. The web site I found had pictures so you might want to continue looking to get better understanding. Trying to figure out how to repair it took longer than the actual repair. It took me about 3 hours to do the work myself, dealer wanted $700 or better to replace it. It just cost me my time. |
