The top shelf/compartment right above the ice maker freezes up with ice crystals so bad that it is almost unusable in a weeks time. It has always formed a 1/2" of ice crystals which was normal, but now the ice crystals get 3"-4" thick. Any ideas on what could be causing the problem?
If this is happening when your icemaker is active, there have been instances where the flow control washer in the icemaker water valve was defective allowing too much pressure to pass thru - thus allowing some spraying of the water as it enters the fill to the mold. The spray will cause a rim ice effect. Solution is to replace the water valve. If your ice maker is turned off, it will be the door gasket as Bubba has suggested.
