Transporting Norcold RV Fridge Bill Cary 8-21-09
Dealer instructed me to transport my new Norcold RV fridge in an upright position. What damage will occur (if any) if I transport it lying down?

RV amonia absorbsion fridges have sevral gasses and fluids in the cooling unit that if they pool in the wrong spot it could be damaging bad for the fridge. I have seen people lay fridges down and get away with it but its not a good idea. Good Luck.

Bill - you can transport in any position you like. Virtually all new cooling units are transported horizonally. One big caution !!! All of the refrigerant (hydrous ammonia) must be returned to the absorber tank and boiler. To do this stand the fridge upright and tilt about 20 degrees in each direction several times. This will get the solution down to the bottom of the cooling unit. Regards, William (23 yrs Dometic)
