I have a 1984 Travelcraft class C MH that hadn't been used in 11 yrs. We are fixin it up again. The frig has the same problem as Pete's. It had a recall replacement eyebrow put in 1993. The gas lights and stays lit. The coils get hot and the burner. Unlike Pete, the freezer cools down to 42. The frig doesn't cool.
After running a few hours, the freezer temp goes up again to 55F. So I shut it down for 5 minutes and start it up again. Doing this for 4 days now hoping it will 'kick in'. I hear gurgling noises in the coils like a chemical being circulated and the coils get hot on startup and then stop.
Someone said to take the frig out and turn it upside down to mix the chemicals since it hadn't been used in so long and to do this 2 or 3 times. I chuckled. I have no mechanical talent and would break the unit for sure.
No ammonia leaks or powder or smell like Pete said about his.
I'm pretty stubborn I guess to keep trying but I really don't want to put out $1500 (inc parts and installation) or more for a new frig. My pocketbook hurts right now.
What do you think the chance of the frig "coming back to life" is? 50-50? less? more? When should I say enough?
thanks,
