Atwood Water Heater Valve Mark Allen 7-20-09
I thought I had already posted this, but I dont see it in the forums. Made a mistake anyway. I have a GC10A-3E Atwood Water Heater. I have replaced most the parts with the exception of the gas valve. It is sparking, but doesn't seem to be letting propane through the valve. I took the valve off and it is getting propane up to that point but isn't lighting. I am hoping I don't have to replace the valve, I can't afford the $200 part, and besides I am only going to be in here 6 more months and need the money (like others) for other more pressing things. So, what will cause this valve to not open, which appears to be what is/isn't happening. Does anyone have a diagram for the wiring. It is possible I crossed one of them up, I dont think I did, but it is possible.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark, You should have a red wire coming off the ECO to the valve. Check for clean connections throughout, it also could be a bad ECO or even the control board, hard to say from here. If it's the valve... non repairable. Good luck

If you have an Ohm meter it is easy to prove out the coil(s) on the valve. I can't rember the spec but the coil has to have some real resistance but not be open or shorted. Very often the broken wire is right near the conection and some carefull work with a soldering iron and it could be fixed. Good Luck
