Ive made sure LP gas is running through my system & i think my H.W tank is full, but when hit the water heater switch, the red light comes on, then off, then on again, and stays on. I've checked the outside access & don't see a pilot of feel any heat. Is there something i should be doing manually? Like a hot water heater in a home? Any advice? Thanks
Hi Brian, Have someone flip the switch on while you listen at the WH for a thunk (gas valve opening) and then clicking (spark). If you have both and no ignition, or one or the other let me know which. There's nothing you should have to do but make sure your LP is on and good 12V power and flip the switch for it to light, otherwise there's a problem.
Brian,
Just how long has it been sitting?? Your line from the LPG tank to the water heater may need purged first. I had this problem in my RV, and making sure I knew exactly where the air/fuel mixture piping was originally set, I removed the igniter wire from the igniter to prevent inadvernant ignition, then the small section of aluminum pipe, which has vent holes in it, and is located just after the orafice. It has a very small adjustment screw, so good luck getting it out and back in without a little swearing, and then either slide it further down the pipe, remove it or maneuver that piping just enough so the orafice has room to be able to screw out and put back in. I then carefully unscrewed the orafice, which is not very well supported by the housing, so be very carefull that you don't disconfigure the mounting hardware during this process. The threads are pretty fine, so be very careful not to crossthread it after doping it back up to reassemble. "NO THREAD TAPE!!!" I was laughed at when I told my older brother and a friend of my plan to get more gas through there by temporarily removing it, but I got the upper on both of them. The orafice is designed to only let so much gas pass, so the hole is extremely small, so by not removing it, takes a really long time to purge. Once this was removed, I went back inside, and with the two doubters outside, I pushed the water heater toggle inside. The first time, the light went on and stayed on, meaning there was no ignition, as well as the second, which is what should have happened, and they could hear and smell the gas/air coming out of the orafice housing unlike when the orafice was in place. After this, I cleaned the orafice threads, and used a tip cleaner and made sure the hole was clear and with no obstructions. and carefully screwed the orafice and air/fuel mixture section back into place, and reattached the igniter wire. I then went back in and tried firing the water heater, and sure enough for this dummy, the light initially went on, and then right off like it's supposed to, and completely amazed the doubters of my plan and objective. Hope this helps!! Barry
