I am trying to locate a replacement muffler for this generator that is on a 1984 Southwind. The muffler is made by Nelson muffler. I have the part number off the old muffler and it is also the part number that is used in the Kohler manual. It should not be that hard to find but I have been having difficulties.
I'm in the process of looking for an old Nelson muffler for a 70's model Ford tractor. I have emailed the company from their website. Here is the link, they are now part of Cummins, they bought them in 1997.
Good luck. My muffler is stamped with the Nelson name and part number on the muffler. I called and spoke to a Nelson distributor and was told the following. If it has the Nelson name stamped on the muffler it was manufactured by Nelson under contract for another manufacturer, in my case "Kohler". Therefore you are not able to buy an identical replacement from Nelson, but have to go back to the company they manufactured it for. In my case Nelson has not manufactured that product for Kohler for many years. You may be able to find a close replacement on that Cummins website. The Nelson/Cummins distributor I spoke to was kind enough to call Cummins and they looked up the specs on the old muffler and suggested a replacement they make which was close to the original specs. I would think you may be able to find a replacement that is close at Fleet Farm or Farm and Fleet or some type of store like that.
