Dometic fridge igniter not working Chris 5-14-09
My Dometic RM8800 gas/electric fridge runs fine on 110 AC but the electronic ignition won't lite the LP Gas (the orange igniter verification light won't come on when you switch to gas). I verified that there is 13 Volts DC flowing into the ignition. Any suggestions on troubleshooting/fixing this?

Hi Chris, Using an Ohm meter, If you have a potted circuit board (can't see diodes and stuff, in black epoxy) Remove the board, Place negative lead of the multi-meter to ground (green
wire) track of edge connection and positive lead of the multi-meter to top power (brown wire) track of edge connection. If no continuity, board is defective. If you have a non potted where you can see the diodes/ resistors etc. look for any burned tracks on the backside. Also make sure the plug connections are clean. Good luck!

Chris - I think you have the model number wrong butit sounds like you have a manually operated unit with electronic spark. First check for carbon build up on the electrode immediately above the flame. If the electrode sees resistance it thinks the flame is there and stops the igniter. If that is OK make sure the lead to the electrode is not grounded out along the path If thats OK test for 12 volts at the igniter. If you have 12 v there, unplug the electrode lead - if there is no ticking sound - bad igniter - replace it. Good luck William

We had a problem with our fridge stayin on when on LP power. Ended up being a wasps nest in the part where the flame is. Cleaned it out and it worked fine.

I had the same problem as Chris above but before I read the comments here I tried to troubleshoot and ended up making matters worse. Here is the problem I have now. When I was checking for voltage at the igniter I accidentle touched the wire from the + side of the igniter with the - side thus blowing the 3 amp fuse on the circuit board. I did have 12 volts at the igniter before I touched the wires together but now have nothing. I did blow the 3 amp fuse and replaced it and the 5 amp fuse checked ok but now I do not get any voltage at the igniter. I also have 120 volts at term 5 & 6 but none at term 7&8. Not sure where to go from here but any suggestions would be really welcomed.

Thanks,
Dale
