Dodge Midas Mini roof leaking Steven Pfeifer 5-12-09
Got a 1975 Dodge Midas Mini 19ft RV - roof is leakin in a couple spots - want to just re-roof it but where to start? This is my 1st RV and re-roofing one is not something I've ever done or even seen done - any special materials, tools, techniques needed to do this?
Thanks in advance

Hi Steven, Unless the roof is really in bad shape, like corroded thru or major holes there's probably no need to reroof. Scrape off as much of the old sealant as possible, if it's stuck leave it, CLEAN the areas with Simple Green or Super Clean or equivalent and a scrub brush, rinse or wipe with wet rag, brush Elastomeric around vents, TV antenna mount, roof seams, apply Elastomeric caulk to joints and gaps, then brush sealant over that. Silicone isn't recommended as nothing sticks to it and... I won't go there just don't use it on the roof. It's ok around windows, lights and doors. This is all for a metal roof, NOT EPDM rubber roofs! Beings it's a 75 I figure it's metal. Lay a bead of Elastomeric along the edge moulding and smooth it into the gap. CLEAN and seal the lights, doors, windows along the top and down the sides, smooth it out. This should take care of your leak problems. Good luck!

I had the same problem and did pretty much what Keith mentioned. It still leaked. I wound up putting that Elastomeric over the whole roof with a roller brush and that solved the problem for 4 years of driving it and 6 years of sitting there, never did leak till I took the AC out. Reroof? Yikes!!
