I have a 1999 f150 with a 4.2 v/6 and a 5sp I was wondering if can tow a boat that is about 5000 lbs dry weight with out blown up my engine? if not is there anything i can do to have tow that much??
Damage to the engine would be directly related to how hard you work it. The towing capacity of your truck has more to do with the capacity of the brakes andsuspension to control that much weight. This should be on the sticker just insde the drivers door on the door jam. A manual trans and diferential will and can over heat and burn up if badly over heated but are much less prone to this than the automatic if it gets overloaded. So it comes down to Yep you can blow that engine all over the first hill if you push to hard, but as I may be infront of you, will the truck stop? Good Luck
