I HAVE AN DUO-THERM ANALOG HEAT/COOL THERMOSTAT. EVERY TIME I USED THE HEATER LAST SUMMER THE UNIT WOULD RUN GOOD TILL YOU GO TO SLEEP AND THEN IT WOULD QUIT. IF YOU RUN THE TEMP ADJ DOWN AND BACK UP TO DESIRED TEMP THE UNIT WOULD COME ON AND RUN. I HAD IT IN THE SHOP AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE UNIT. I WAS GETTING THE UNIT READY FOR THIS SUMMER AND I CHECKED THE UNIT OUT. I FOUND THAT IF THE FURNACE IS ON COOL DOWN (FAN ON NO GAS)AND THE THERMOSTAT CALLS FOR MORE HEAT, THE FAN WILL SHUT DOWN AND WILL NOT COME BACK ON UNTIL YOU ADJUST THE THERMOSTAT DOWN AND BACK UP TO DESIRED SETTING OR TURN THE SWITCH OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN. I CAN HEAR THE RELAY IN THE AC CONTROL BOX AS THE FAN SHUTS OFF. I'VE READ THAT THERE IS A 30 DELAY FOR THE FAN TO COME ON AND THEN 30 SEC FOR THE GAS. MY UNIT TURNS THE FAN ON IMMEDIATELY WHEN YOU TURN THE SWITCH TO HEAT. i HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WHEN I USE THE AC. ANY HELP? THANKS
Mike -- since you have no similar problem when operating the Air Cond, I would think the thermostat is OK. BUT- The easiest way to diagnose is to first replace the thermostat since that is easy. If it doesnt fix the problem then replace the control board for the air conditioner (as it controls the voltage to the furnace). A new thermostat is $30. and a rebuilt board is $80. -- I would be happy to send you both to try. then return what you dont use and your check for what you do use plus - $5.00 postage.
I need to know if this is a heat pump or heat strip style.
Let me know -- William
