I have a 1976 Dodge sportsman with a rebuilt B300. I didn't have a hard time with the bolts, but...I'm trying to get it off the engine, but the floor seems to be getting in the way. there only seems to be like an inch of clearance. I would love any suggestions. I thought maybe just replacing one side of the gasket, then pulling the other side off so that I don't have to take the whole thing off, but there's all the crap from the last one on there. I could use any advice!!
Thanks
If you are just going to replace the head to manifold gaskets and you only have a limited amount of room to work in, just loosen the bolts enough so that you can pull the manifold away from the head as much as possible, use a putty knife to slip in the space and scrape off the old gasket. Now take the new gasket notch out the bottom of the bolt holes so it'll slide down on the bolts. Next, run beads of RTV high Temp sealer (the red stuff) around around the port holes of the gasket, both sides, slip it into place, and tighten the bolts ( not too tight, the manifold has to "walk" as it heats up and cools off).
