My fan stopped working and I could hear the compressor starting. Removed the shroud and found the fan blades contacting the shroud. The support from the bottom pan of the A/C up to the fan end of the motor was bent. Straightened the support and all was well and has remained so. Have no idea how the support got bent, never had a problem or heard the fan hitting the shroud before the time it wouldn't work at all. Circulating blower and condenser fan are shaft driven from opposite ends of the motor.
