Problem getting the pilot light lit manually and if we can get it lit, small flame and it goes out. Several people have told me thermo coupler, gas valve and or gas control. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I priced the gas control and it is $120.00 which I cannot afford. Any idea which items I should replace first? Thank you so much.
Hi Glenda, You should have a pilot adjust screw on the control valve. If it's a Unitrol it's on the front right side. If it's a SIT it should be on the right side. The flame should engulf the thermocouple with a blue flame. Or you could have a dirty pilot orifice or blockage of some sort. Remove and clean it with alcohol and toothpick, nothing metal. Or you can have low LP gas pressure, but if other appliances work ok this is not probable. If you get the pilot lit (good flame) and it won't stay lit, change the thermocouple. Last I'd change the control valve. Best of luck!
