House batteries Jack Evans 6-7-08
I have been getting mixed advice regarding keeping the house batteries fully charged on the coach electric plug in cord. One side says it is not good to keep them charged and the other says it is ok to let them go down.

What is the best way to handle it ?

Thanks
Jack

I have also noticed that I cannot start my generator except when the coach is running. Then it starts right up and runs fine. I can turn the coach motor off and the generator keeps running like it should.

Any ideas.

Generally it is NOT good to run any battery until its completely flat except for NiCad batteries cause they have a 'memory' Running your wet cell batteries down to nothing usually shortens the life of the battery and damages the plates on the inside. The electrolytic process pulls juice off the plates that are submerged in the acidic solution to produce electricity. If you run them completely down irreversible damage usually occurs. I wouldnt run them completely flat then recharge them. On your second question it sounds like there is a safety switch inbetween the batteries that start the engine and the generator. Dont attempt to defeat that.
