My Mustang was running with the headkights on and then the car died. I have a cab light in the car but not headlights, wipers, or ignition. The fuses look to be ok but nothing. Any ideas?
How's your battery? Does the engine crank or does that cause all the lights to go out?
Headlights, wipers and ignition are all seperate fuses. There's something wrong in your charging system. Your car has an external voltage regulator which was notorious for causing this type of problem (If you don't have a certificate car, do yourself a favor and get the solid state replacement). Check the battery and see if it is discharged (less than 10.5 volts); If it is, charge it up and test the charging system. If having the headlights on draws the system down to 12 volts or lower, you have an alternator or voltage regulator problem. You can "Full field" the charging system at the voltage regulator plug (jump the Battery or "B" pin to the field or "F" pin). Full fielded, the alternator should put out 15 volts. If it doesn't, check that you have EXACTLY battery voltage at the "B" pin of the voltage regulator. If the voltages match, you have a bad alternator.
