88 Ranger 2.9 FI 4WD Dave L 5-2-08
I bought a 88 Ranger 2.9 FI 4WD back in Jan 08. Drove it home with no problems, ran it around my area for about 2 days afterwards, pulled into my garage & it just outright died.

It would try to run if you use Starting Fluid in it, but will not start other wise. Spoke with a friend of mine whom suggested to check & change the fuel pump relay(s) on the pass side fender well. This was done but still not starting, changed the Low pressure FP (in the tank), replaced everything. "Primed" the fuel system as per the mech book, still nothing, no start what so ever.

Any other suggestions??

Let me add that even after attempting to "prime" the fuel system as per mech req, there is still nothing within the fuel rail at all.

Power going to the intertia switch, fuse is ok. power going to the LP FP also, checked ground, but still nothing & would like to get this truck running asap.

Sounds like the fuel pump has given up the ghost or the fuel filter has completely collapsed.

When you turn the ignition key to "Run" (one click before the starter cranks), the fuel pump should buzz for 5 to 10 seconds. If the pump doesn't do anything, then it's shot and needs to be replaced. If the pump buzzes, the replace the fuel filter.

This may sound a bit oversimple, but Ford fuel injection shuts off if battery voltage (at the PCM) drops below 9 volts. If you see 10.5 volts or less at the battery while cranking, this is why the truck won't start. You'd be doing yourself a favor if you check for codes. Since the truck is EEC4, you can pull codes without a scanner. Instructions are at http://www.troublecodes.net/Ford/

Hope that helps!
