My Onan Gen Marquis Gold 5500 series will start then die after about 2 seconds. I have checked the oil sensor fuel pump and then I started really checking into this matter and talking to several different people about it (i even went to a Onan repair depot and talked to a factory mechanic. Here is what I learned. These carburators on this model Onan are very touchy. Even a tiny bit of varnish or gum Not running for several weeks or a month cause's The majority of the problems for this generator, The altitude adjustment on these carbs if disassembled or removed from the carb, has to be set with a special machine. I removed the carburator and used a spray can of Carb cleaner and removed the float bowl and made sure that there was no varnish or gum in the unit. also sprayed into all orifice openings and made sure that none where plugged. I still have the same problem. The fuel pump is OK and so is the oil sensor. Error code 32 probably indicates that it is the brushes, stator or rotor or the control module board.
Warning. If you attempt to clean the carb your self. Do not I repeat do not remove any jets or the altitude control. If you do you will have to buy a new carb $218 and labor. I did not remove or mess with the altitude control.lucky for me as the carb is OK and not the problem. I would try installing or cleaning the brushes But there is very little space and it takes a small hand to get in the area where they are located. I think I will take it to the service depot and have them fix it..

My 5500 starts and dies. if I hold the start button in it will continue to run. When I let it off it sometimes dies right away and sometimes will continue to run for a short time. Where is the oil sending unit located. Where does this plug into the contral block? Can I simly un-plut it to see if that is the problem? If I hold the start button in or if it runs very long at all it shows on the genset that it is charging. Thanks, Dan.
I had the same problem. It is the Carb. Had tried to clean it to no avail. So took it to mech. He had to replace the carb. Now it works find. Sorry cant be more help but its what happened to me.

5500 marquis gold has been setting for a few months Now it won't start, it doesn't seem to be getting fuel to carb. How do I check fuel pump to make sure its working properly. Any other ideas. Dealers want way to much to diagnose and repair

I took it to the Onan Service Depot this morning. They say I have to have a new Carburator and maybe a Controller board. I questioned them at great length. and here is what I found. They hooked a special circuit board up to the generator that bypasses all of the safety features and permits the unit to run it would run but was running rich and the choke butterfly had to be held open. to keep it running. the choke is controlled by the controller board. But they said that it will do that when there are problems with the carburator. I will find out Wednesday.. They had to order the carb. I had to pay up front for the part. I will keep the old carburator just in case. I was told that the carburator is the throw away type as they cannot be rebuilt. no extended warranty will pay for any carb work period. So I am stuck. But they will pay if the Controller board is bad.

Micolite 4000. losing oil around carberator ( Air instake). Took to mech, he replaced oil pan gasket, replaced new air filter ( $400.00)Ran fine for 2 hours. wouldn't start. Air filter full of oil.Wher is the oil coming from?
I have an Onan generator with issues. We have spark and fuel, but the generator won't stay running unless you spray fuel separately from a bottle. Fuel source bypassed, fuel coming from fuel pump, carb cleaned out by a mechanic. Do I need a new carb? They run just over $200.
Onan starts and stops, but will run for about 10 to 15 seconds each time I start. I cleaned the carb, changed all the fuel, bled the fuel line until I got clean fuelfrom that line going directly to the carb. Do I need a new carb?
I have the same issue - does anyone have a pdf copy of the repair manual? I ordered one and they only sent me a parts catalog and I am getting impatient. When I started to remove the carb it seemed easy enough, but I was afraid to damage the springs and linkages...
My Onan generator on my coachmen 3150 will fire for about 2 seconds on the first try at cranking. The generator will only turn over on the next attempts but will not even atempt to start. If allowed to sit it will fire on the first attempt again and then only turn over, no attempt to fire. Any advise. Plenty of gas, checked oil, and air filters, manually worked choke and same results.
