Gents I have a 97 Tahoe with vortec 6 engine. It has over 218,000 and never overhaul;ed. Had a overheating problem...now not starting after replacing head gaskets.
Is it better to rebuild that enmgine putting $$ in or should we rebuild it. Where can we find a inexpensive rebuilt in Ft Lauderdale / Miami area Florida??/
If the engine never overheated, I'd say rebuild. Since the problem that caused the engine to stop working was overheating, there will be machine work necessary to flatten the block and heads, bare minimum, and fix anything else that was damaged.
Check you're local phone book for autoparts staores and see who carries the "Jasper" brand of remanufactured motors. I've used Jasper in the past for foreign and domestic long blocks and they have some good stuff. You're looking for a long block and if you can't install it yourself, you might want to also ask for shops that install Jasper remanufactured motors. Getting a reman long block is the cheapest way to replace an engine.
